Greetings from AFRINIC, AFRINIC is one of two RIRs with IPv4 addresses in its available pool—1,015,552 million, to be specific. Of course, this is grossly inadequate to meet Africa’s current IP address needs, making IPv6 the only sustainable way to continue to grow the Internet's potential in Africa. That’s why, in 2018, after having trained over 6,000 engineers from 50 countries, we designed and organised the world’s first Deployathon to shorten the time between learning about IPv6 and actually implementing it. In 2020, we redesigned the event and organised it entirely online. Hello all. The APRICOT 2025 Organising Committee would like to welcome everyone to join us in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, from the 19th to the 27th, February 2025. The APRICOT 2025 Programme Committee is responsible for the solicitation and selection of suitable presentations and tutorial content for the APRICOT 2025 conference (https://2025.apricot.net/). We are now seeking VOLUNTEERS from the community to join the APRICOT 2025 PC to assist with the development of the programme for APRICOT 2025. Eligible PC candidates must have attended recent APRICOT events, have broad technical knowledge of Internet operations, and have good familiarity with the format of APRICOT. Having constructive opinions and ideas about how the programme content might be improved is of high value too. PC members are expected to work very actively to solicit content, follow-through for speaker updates and review submissions for technical merit . The PC meets by conference call, weekly in frequency during the three months prior to APRICOT. While participation in the weekly calls is not obligatory, active participation in content reviews is required at all times to help the PC reach consensus. PC members who are unable to fully participate in the programme development will be excused from the PC. If you are interested in joining the PC and meet the above eligibility criteria, please send a brief note to "pc-chairs at apricot.net". The note must include affiliation (if any) and a brief description about why you would make a good addition to the PC. Hi Everyone Quick question. Im sure the wheel has already been invented, however let me throw it out there anyway I need someway to generate RSS feeds or network status direct from Vumatel / openserve / metro etc feeds and bring into our site so clients can see if something is down in the area I was going to use FreshRSS unless there is an easier way to do this and also which feeds should I import directly from. I know rocketnet are doing similar so well done to them, maybe they can share what they are doing. Im trying to reduce the amount of tickets and call in clients when their fibre goes offline, so I want them to first check if their area is affected or not. Hi folks. I'm Jim Forster, an ex cisco techy, now investing in smaller ISPs in Africa & Asia A fast growing ISP in South Africa is looking for a Director or VP, Network Engineering. The roles covers 3 core functions; 1.⁠ ⁠Network operations; ensuring the network is online 24/7. It includes the highsite field teams and the NOC. There are 10 people here and it will double at least. 2.⁠ ⁠⁠Design and Optimization; managing the core network mainly, IP/NLD, routing, the DCs and network planning. There are 3 engineers there and this team will grow. 3.⁠ ⁠⁠Rollout and Expansion; a new department responsible for network growth. They've been growing ~100% /year, and are just closing a very nice funding round, so must get ahead of the curve for network expansion. I’m fond of saying “small networks are easy, big networks are different”. The annual ZANOG meeting is a two-day technical event to engage discussion in the technical community. The ZANOG Programme Committee is seeking volunteers from the community to join the ZANOG Program Committee for a 3-year term. Eligibility: Anyone interested in the technical operations ecosystem and is willing to volunteer some time and expertise to the cause of ZANOG can apply. There are no restrictions. However, preference will be given to applicants who have attended at least one previous localised ZANOG or iWeek technical event. Linux/VPP router

Hi list, During the pub session after Zanog2024/iWeek, Sander mentioned his friend that did a Linux router using VPP, so I asked him more information about it, and he responded below. Anybody else that is/have tested similar and could share advice on locally (ie. South African) sourceable parts ? The ideal candidate will be an excellent multi-tasker, responsible for research, design, development, testing, and documentation, while also supporting the functions of the Internet Exchange Points that we maintain. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: - Perform general network and system administration duties as required - Debug day-to-day operating problems with peers, and work actively to maintain INX-ZA services to highest possible uptime. - Recommend / design / construct / test / implement network, application, and systems programs as needed. - Periodically perform training as part of the INX-ZA training program. Skills Desirable: - 4-year university degree, preferably in an information systems or computer science related discipline, OR equivalent combination of education and experience. - Proven track record of at least 4 years of job-related experience supporting Linux and/or FreeBSD as a system administrator. - Excellent knowledge of Internet Protocol (IP), network security issues, and open-source security tools. - Ability to understand complex instructions and work independently, quickly, and accurately. - Ability to learn and fill knowledge gaps quickly. - Sound knowledge of programming and scripting; being able to write scripts to automate processes is essential. - Ability to modify existing open-source solutions for use in INX-ZA environments. - Ability to travel to various locations to work on INX-ZA infrastructure and attend industry-related conferences. - Good interpersonal skills, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Skills Preferred: - Familiarity and/or previous relevant experience within an ISP or IXP environment/toolset. - Strong bias towards automation and code-reuse. - Production experience with FOSS tools. - Experience with BGP. Additional Duties: - Perform other related duties as required and assigned. We are a small, dynamic, and highly agile team that covers all aspects of operations. Physical Requirements: - Moderate physical activity with the ability to type and perform repetitive motions. Some lifting and stooping are required to unpack deliveries and rack equipment. - Ability to spend most of the day looking at computer screen(s). - Ability to travel to various locations to perform INX-ZA related work, or attend industry-related meetings on INX-ZA’s behalf. We are looking for presenters who would: - Offer a technical tutorial on an appropriate topic; - Participate in the technical conference sessions as a speaker; - Convene and chair panel sessions of relevant topics.
