[Zanog-discuss] filter on Max AS path, yes/ no?

There isn't one! If, beyond 3-4 prepends the traffic still ain't going where you want, then it's because of someone else's local_pref, and there's nothing to be done (at least in the control plane).
The existence of these paths is a sign that people don't or won't accept that fact.

Cheers,

Ben

I'd love to know what the use case is for 17 prepends. Like, just in case?

Once upon a time, there were some nasty bugs out there (esp. in IOS) that would be triggered by excessive as path lengths. I've not seen anything like this in a long time. We don't filter on path length, but I still occasionally have "wtf is that in dfz for?" moments.

Cheers,

Ben

Morning,
I don't want to go down the rabbit hole of why people feel they need to
prepend 17 times but simply, as a best practice should one filter prefixes
longer than say 10 ?
Or does it not make a difference to anything and it is just my OCD of having
a cleanish routing table

Thanks
Don
